Beautiful New Zealand made violin. In excellent physical and functional playing condition, set up with new Thomastik Dominant strings, new Despiau bridge, new Pusch tailpiece. Beautiful tone!

This violin has an exceptionally beautiful sound, with a clear and resonant voice which has matured as the violin has aged. A native NZ Puriri wood fingerbaord and Beautiful European tonewoods shape the identity of this instrument, which has been carefully setup by Phil Whitehead, and we now offer it to you in superb condition.

About Louis Smet
Born in Germany, and later emigrated to New Zealand.  Louis Smet lived and worked in Warkworth, New Zealand.  He preferred to live 'off grid' without electricity and made his violins by either natural daylight, or lamplight. A self-taught violin maker, Louis would regularly drive to Auckland during the 1990's to visit other violin makers, show them his latest projects and get tips and advice on what could be improved.  He was always passionate about his violins and always seeking to improve his skills.

This 1998 Louis Smet violin is an excellent example of how he successfully developed his skills, and was able to produce beautiful violins.
