Elegant French “Virtuoso” Francesco Ruggieri Model Violin

This handsome early 20th-century violin is a fine example of French craftsmanship from the renowned Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy workshops in Mirecourt. Built as a “Virtuoso” model faithfully copying the classic 1671 Francesco Ruggieri pattern, it features elegant proportions, beautifully fluted f-holes, a graceful scroll, and a rich, warm reddish-brown varnish.

Particularly striking is the beautifully flamed 2-piece maple back, which displays vibrant figure and depth. The instrument has been fully restored by Philip Whitehead at The String Workshop, ensuring structural integrity and optimal playability. It is fitted with a new high grade Despiau bridge, Larsen Tzigane strings, and a Pusch ebony tailpiece with carbon fibre fine tuners — delivering excellent response and tone.

Despite its age (circa 1890–1920), this violin remains in excellent playable condition with a resonant tone offering clarity, warmth, and good projection. The three original labels (“Francesco Ruggieri”, “Virtuoso”, and “Trademark Depose”) are intact inside.

A wonderful example of high-standard French violin making, this instrument combines historical charm with modern setup and reliability. Ideal for orchestral work, chamber music, or solo performance.

A beautiful, ready-to-play vintage violin with excellent value.
