Leon Mougenot was born in 1874 and established himself in Mirecourt after working for Blanchard, Jombar, and Hill and Sons, among many other prominent makers. He frequently collaborated with other prominent luthiers of his time. His instruments are known for their superior workmanship and varnish. The orange amber varnish of this violin is complemented with a warm and smooth tone.
This is certainly a beautiful antique hand made violin, made in France year circa 1905. The beautiful two piece back is carved from the most stunning flamed maple. Beautifully restored and set up to perfect playing condition with new boxwood pegs and tailpiece, Larsen Tzigane strings, and an ebony chin rest. A beautiful, warm and colourful tone. Previously owned by a professional violinist and played for performances in some of Europes finest concert halls, this violin certainly has an exquisite tone.
